Marcus was brought into a primary school to be part of a school "farm" until the head teacher (Andrea Charman) decided to have Marcus slaughtered so she could raffle off his body to be able to buy pigs so she can show the children where sausages come from! Marcus gave the children so much yet received so little in return, R.I.P. Marcus!
What the slaughter of Marcus symbolises is a crossing of lines which must not be allowed to become common place in the education system. Andrea Charman was offered financial incentives from animal sanctuaries and individuals to give Marcus somewhere safe to go and live out the rest of his life but she refused these and did everything in her power to make sure the slaughter went ahead!
Marcus will be missed by those that knew him and those that didnt!

A prayer for all animals

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for those animals who are suffering; for any who are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to sleep. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us be true friends to animals and so to share the blessing of the merciful.

Roman Catholic Cardinal (1801-90)
"Cruelty to animals is as if a man did not love God.’ 1870
"Now what is it moves our very heart and sickens us so much as cruelty shown to poor brutes? I suppose this: first, that they have done us no harm; next, that they have no power whatever of resistance; it is the cowardice and tyranny of which they are the victims which make their sufferings so especially touching… there is something so very dreadful, so satanic, in tormenting those who have never harmed us and who cannot defend themselves; who are utterly in our power."
"It is almost a definition of a gentleman to say he is one who never inflicts pain."

The poem Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

A letter from your pet in heaven
Author Unknown

To my dearest family,
some things I'd like to say.
But first of all, to let you know,
that I arrived okay.

I'm writing this from the Bridge.
Here I dwell with God above.
Here there's no more tears of sadness.
Here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy
just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you
every morning, noon and night.

That day I had to leave you
when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me
and He said, "I welcome you.

It's good to have you back again,
you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family,
They'll be here later on."

God gave me a list of things,
that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list,
was to watch and care for you.

And when you lie in bed at night
the day's chores put to flight,
God and I are closest to you...
in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth,
and all those loving years,
because you are only human,
they are bound to bring you tears.

But do not be afraid to cry:
it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers,
unless there were some rain.

I wish that I could tell you
all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you,
you wouldn't understand.

But one thing is for certain,
though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now,
than I ever was before.

There are rocky roads ahead of you
and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it
by taking one day at a time.

It was always my philosophy
and I'd like it for you too;
That as you give unto the world,
the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody
who's in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night...
"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented...
that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along
I made somebody smile.

God says: "If you meet somebody
who is sad and feeling low;
Just lend a hand to pick him up,
as on your way you go.

When you're walking down the street
with me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps
only half a step behind."

"And when it's time for you to go...
from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going...
you're coming here to me."

I only wish I had heard of poor Marcus' plight a lot sooner so I would have had more chance to save him. Too many of our beloved animals, our friends, and our loved ones depart this earth too quickly. I am ashamed to even call myself a member of the human race when such barbarism is permitted in a primary school. The children responsible for agreeing on Marcus' slaughter and the stubborn, pig-headed, brutish decisions of the Headmistress, Andrea Charman, are a reflection on us as a race of beings - and an incredibly bad reflection they are. We will see to it that Marcus' death was not in vain and that the brute responsible for his death is not permitted to teach in any school ANYWHERE. We have overwhelming support, Marcus will not have died in vain.

In the names of the animals slaughtered by the ignorant and the apathetic, in the names of all those who lose their lives to these soulless excuses for sentient beings - I stand with all of you and I say this: Marcus will be remembered for many years to come as being the catalyst for a new sense of compassion in our children and a new, more powerful, respect for animals than has been shown in so many years. Everything happens for a reason, let us make sure that Marcus' memory lives on for our children to learn from.

May you find eternal peace Marcus, the fields you never saw and the friends you never had the time to make. Blessed be dear creature.

Yours,
Holly Donna Balaclava

After such a horrific betrayal at the hands of so called 'humans', may your soul always remain free and may you find eternal peace.

May the love that you gave those around you be returned to you infinite fold and forever.Humanity was so privileged to have you walk the earth plane.

I never had the pleasure of meeting you, but I love you.

THERE IS A NEW STAR SHINING IN THE SKY TONIGHT...
by Sarah Hartwell

There is an old belief that the stars shining in the night sky are the
spirits of those who have died. They have shed their earthly bodies and
exchanged them for bodies made of light; thousands upon thousands of our
dear departed friends all promoted to glory in the night sky. There is
another saying that the brightest flame burns the shortest.

My friend, you were the brightest star in my own universe. While I burn
on, my flame dimmed by grief and despair at your passing, the stars are
watching me. They are too far away for me to touch, just as you have
gone somewhere I cannot follow until my own star-time comes. They
cannot be held close for comfort, just as I can no longer hold you
close, though I held you close to comfort you in your final hours. We
were together for such a short time, but the stars will burn forever.

One day I will grow tired of this earthbound body, my own star-time will
come and my spirit will soar into the sky to burn with all those friends
who have gone before me. On the inky cloth of space we will be reunited
in constellations of joy. Until then, my flame burns low and dim and
cold without you. Through my tears I look upwards to see if you are
watching me and what do I see?

There is a new star shining in the sky tonight.
